Although the railway arrived in the 1830s, Seven Kings didn’t start to develop as an area until the early 20th century. It was part of Essex until 1965, when it became part of Greater London.
The area is mainly residential and is characterised by bungalows and purpose built blocks; there are various green spaces with Seven Kings Park providing tennis courts and a bandstand, while there is a golf course, farm and fishing lake at Hainault Forest Country Park.
You can find Indian sweets, second hand cars, musical instruments or panel beaters. The two main shopping roads of the area are Seven Kings High Road and Goodmayes Road.
The area also has a large number services and facilities for the public.
The recently reopened Cauliflower on Ilford High Street. The grade-IIlisted Cauliflower Hotel opened in 1900 on the site of an earlier public house. English Heritage describes it as “a good example of the opulent late-19th-century gin palace style with an imposing street presence … designed in a free Flemish/Jacobean style.”
Located in the immediate area are Mayfield High School (London), Palmer Catholic Academy and Seven Kings High School. Primary schools in this area include Downshall Primary School, Farnham Green Primary School, South Park Primary School and Eastcourt.
Seven Kings links to central London via the overground which runs to Liverpool Street from Seven Kings railway station and the Central Line from Newbury Park.
Seven Kings Park is a large open space containing sports facilities such as tennis courts, a sports ground, and a bandstand; there is also Westwood Park, a smaller open space and playground in Meads Lane. It also borders the districts of Ilford and Goodmayes
