Leafy Woodford Green borders Essex and Epping Forest, therefore residents benefit from having the ancient woodland on their doorstep. It’s quiet and popular with families and older couples who want to escape the big smoke, but they can still travel easily to the city via the Central Line or the rail. House prices are also a fair bit cheaper than many of the surrounding areas.
This village suburb has plenty of attractive pubs and eateries, chain restaurants include Pizza Express and Zizzi, and there are several independent shops on the High Road. On the Broadway by Woodford station there is a Budgens supermarket, several cafés, including a Belgique patisserie, part of a small Wanstead-based chain, and Crystall a lovely old-fashioned pharmacy with a window display of Bronnley soaps. The nearest public swimming pool is close to nearby Fairlop Water country park, where there are two golf courses, as well as windsurfing and sailing on the lake.
Perfect for a bite to eat or supping one of McMullens finest hand-crafted real ales, the Cricketers has one of the highest sales per square foot of McMullen ale in the country – so expect nothing less than perfection! Otherwise, there’s a local landmark pub, the Castle, now a popular Harvester destination.
